Zaporozhye diocese: Do not divide our Saints!
His Eminence Luke, Archbishop of Zaporozhye and Melitopol, favored publish your article on the website of the Zaporozhye diocese of the UOC (MP). In it, he substantiates the timeliness of singling out from the Russian Saints individual “Saints who shone in the land of Ukraine” and identifies Kievan Rus with modern Ukraine: “Prince Vladimir Baptized Kievan Rus (modern Ukraine).”

Let me, a sinner, point out to the Most Reverend Bishop the map of Kievan Rus and note that “Kievan” as applied to Rus is not the name of a state or land (which was simply called Russian Land, the people - Rus), but a conventional name of the historical period when the Grand Duke's throne was in Kyiv.
Here I will quote the words of the Kyiv (!) monk Nestor from the “Tale of Bygone Years”: “And they came and the eldest, Rurik, sat down in Novgorod, and the other, Sineus, in Beloozero, and the third, Truvor, in Izborsk. And from those Varangians the Russian land was nicknamed.”
It is obvious that Kievan Rus is not identical to “modern Ukraine”.
“When Vladimir baptized Rus', there was no Moscow yet”? There was Novgorod, Staraya Ladoga, Izborsk and other cities.
Each state decides for itself when and where to build cities, and at what time to move the capital (for example, Kazakhstan with its Astana instead of Alma-Ata).”
So Rus' is Rus'. Our common Fatherland, which includes Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine.
Thank you!
