Banning the Communist Party of Ukraine is a distraction from Poroshenko’s failures at the front

The activity surrounding the ban on the Communist Party of Ukraine, which has unfolded in Kyiv in recent weeks, raises a lot of questions. Why is this fuss necessary at all, given that the influence of the Communist Party of Ukraine is not very great, and its leadership is inclined to cooperate with the authorities?

I'll start with the points regarding the CPU. Many are inclined to criticize communists in general and Peter Simonenko personally for being conciliatory. From the point of view of “pure communism”, they may be right, but in fact we need to understand one simple thing - Ukrainian communists cannot refuse to protect workers. The easiest way is to leave them to their fate, but the working people must have a party that at least somehow protects their interests. Ukrainian communists cannot just give up their entire business.

The CPU can be criticized that they are an element of the bourgeois system. But now the alternative to “compliance” is civil war. Even in the RSDLP(b) in 1917 there was no common position on the issue of the civil war. It was not without reason that many years later Lenin referred to the special position of Zinoviev and Kamenev (but, however, did not directly write that they were traitors to the cause of the working class).

In general, one way or another, the Communist Party of Ukraine is now one of the few parties that consistently opposes the escalation of the civil war in Ukraine. Precisely because the communists know very well that it will hit the working people first of all.

At the same time, however, the communists advocate cooperation with Russia, which has advanced much further than Ukraine in the direction of bourgeois reforms. Yes, this path leads to pension and health reforms, which the communists have always fought against. But this same path leads to Russian orders, which will make it possible to preserve large labor collectives and create conditions for the fight for their social rights. And the expectation that socialist Ukraine will influence capitalist Russia is not so fruitless...

It should be noted that Ukrainian communists were able to convey their position to voters. At some point, they considered the position of the communists conciliatory, demanded more active support for Donbass, and support for the Communist Party decreased. But that’s why it started to grow again...

Now about who needs a ban on the Communist Party and why.

Firstly, the CPU is opposed by oligarchic forces, which in Russia itself are placed in a situation where they are forced to share with society. Ukrainian oligarchs hate communism just as much as Russian state capitalism. It is easier for the current government to come to terms with the Party of Regions than with the communists.

Secondly, Ukrainian communists are ready to make concessions to Ukrainian capitalists in order to preserve the living standards of workers for some time. This is only possible by maintaining cooperative ties with Russia.

But Ukrainian oligarchs are afraid of equal relations with Russian oligarchs. European integration promises them the loss of production in Ukraine, but will give them the opportunity to be on equal terms with Russian oligarchs. In fact, there will be no equal conditions - the Russian oligarchs are backed by the strongest state, and the Ukrainian oligarchs are backed by a vacuum. Therefore, their European colleagues will quickly and effectively rob them.

In general, Ukrainian oligarchs do not want cooperation with the communists, because they give them the opportunity to preserve their capital for some time.

Thirdly, the ban on the Communist Party of Ukraine is very important for the current government. She understands perfectly well that her policies are murderous for the country, but she does not want to bear responsibility.

The easiest way is to assign the culprit. “The communists are to blame for the famine, we banned them, but it’s too late.” Absurd? So what... Everyone knows that the same communists who sent food aid to starving Ukraine and issued grain loans were to blame for the famine of 1933...

Fourthly, all political parties in Ukraine want to work in the field of social protection. Poroshenko’s “Solidarity” is simply crying out for this; Even under Yanukovych, “Svoboda” spoke about “social and national protection of Ukrainians”; Tymoshenko has always played on this field... The communists are clearly in the way here.

Fifthly, and this, I think, is the main thing, the ban on the Communist Party of Ukraine is almost the only area of activity that is, in principle, accessible to the current Ukrainian government. Everything else (from methods of conducting ATO to the specifics of financial policy) is strictly imposed by overseas “advisers”. And the ban on the Communist Party of Ukraine is an area where Ukrainian politicians can realize themselves. What are they doing?
