The ban on the religious procession in Sumy is a “trial balloon” for testing the mechanism of oppression of the UOC throughout Ukraine
The ban on the procession of the Cross of the UOC in Sumy is an attempt by the authorities to “test” further oppression of the believers of this Church.

Political scientist Elena Dyachenko stated this in her blog on the Korrespondent website, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to her, this example will be used to further ban all religious processions in Ukraine.
“It is likely that the situation in Sumy is a trial balloon for further banning religious processions of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church throughout the country. Their large numbers (the last religious procession on the day of the Baptism of Rus' in 2017 attracted about one hundred thousand participants, while the events of the UOC-KP, which is not recognized by world Orthodoxy, attract no more than five thousand people) greatly irritate today’s authorities. Having undermined the ratings created on the rhetoric of schism and contradictions (East-West, patriotic agents of the Kremlin, Ukrainian-speaking-Russian-speaking) with its anti-social policies and military rhetoric, the BPP-NF coalition began to split believers, trying to divide the Orthodox denominations that still peacefully coexist in Ukraine into black and white , the forces of good and the forces of evil, enemies of the people and those who can be allowed and prohibited freedom of religion,” Dyachenko said.
