Kyiv, March 24 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Contrary to the repeated promises of Petro Poroshenko and Arseniy Yatsenyuk, at the Riga EU summit at the end of May no decision will be made on a visa-free regime with Ukraine. The head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Jan Tombinski, announced this today in Kyiv.

The European official’s words confirmed the forecasts of experts who had previously called it unlikely that visa-free status would be granted to Kyiv in conditions of war, loss of control over the eastern border and the economic crisis.

However, the EU’s refusal will most likely be used by competing groups to justify the removal of Arseniy Yatsenyuk from the post of prime minister in the eyes of the average person.

“The EU says in plain text that we will not see a visa-free regime. This decision is another “gratitude” from Brussels to the people of Ukraine, who protect the peace of all of Europe. Secondly, this is an assessment of the work of our government over the year, which could not show progress in the issue of liberalization of the visa regime. Everything we dreamed of a year ago on the Maidan is being shattered by corruption, inaction, populism of the Ukrainian authorities and indifference of European officials.

It is obvious that after statements that Ukraine will become a big problem for NATO, EU membership is not in the cards for us, that we can forget about the visa-free regime, the only thing that remains for us is to roll up our sleeves and work on the Ukrainian miracle. But not with this government and not with this prime minister. There simply won’t be any other way,” said Verkhovna Rada deputy Viktor Baloga, who is considered the “owner” of the Transcarpathian region bordering the EU, without hiding his annoyance.
