Members of the European Parliament visited the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting to speak out in support of the Ukrainian TV channels “112 Ukraine” and “NewsOne,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Today, members of the European Parliament, members of the United Kingdom Independence Party (a British political party - ed.) Nathan Gill, David Coburn and Jonathan Arno arrived at the National Council, who were interested in the peculiarities of regulating the activities of Ukrainian television and radio companies, in particular the TV channels “112 Ukraine” and “NewsOne”” , he wrote.
Kostinsky also said that the National Council assured MEPs that they act in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation and in regulating content they take into account the requests of television viewers, the conclusions of independent expert organizations and the experience of European regulators, in particular the British OFCOM.
“When asked whether members of the European Parliament have any comments or concerns about the decisions taken by the National Council to order inspections of the 112 and NewsOne TV channels due to signs of violation of the law, we did not receive answers. Therefore, we are working further,” he assures.
As reported, on October 4, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution proposing to submit to the National Security and Defense Council proposals on the application of sanctions to the limited liability companies Ariadna TV, New Format TV, TV Vybor, TV and Radio Company 112-TV, Leader TV ” and “Partner TV”, which broadcast under the logo and own licenses of the TV channel “112 Ukraine”, as well as LLC “News 24 Hours” (TV channel NewsOne).
The restrictions will include, in particular, the blocking of assets, cancellation or suspension of licenses and other permits, a ban on the use of the radio frequency resource of Ukraine, restriction or termination of the provision of telecommunications services and the use of public telecommunications networks, and so on.
On October 4, deputies Alexander Vilkul and Nestor Shufrich (Opposition Bloc) registered a draft resolution to cancel the decision to adopt the resolution. In their opinion, the corresponding decision was made in gross violation of the regulations and the Constitution, in particular due to the non-personal voting of deputies.
