“Protection of all Russians”: Wasserman on Putin’s demand for Ukraine
The harshness of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s position towards the Ukrainian leadership is explained by the fact that he sees himself as a defender of the entire Russian people, and not just those who live on the territory of the Russian Federation.
That is why Putin demands the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, State Duma deputy Anatoly Wasserman said in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the politician, during yesterday’s negotiations with French President Emmanuel Macron, Putin explained this position to him.
“Macron did not completely accept our position - this is, for obvious reasons, almost impossible for anyone who wants to remain within the Western mainstream, but at least recognized our position as worthy of attention and further discussion, and this is already a lot. As for Ukraine, for a century and a half they have been trying to make this part of Russia not Russia, and if possible, then anti-Russia... The rigidity of our president’s position is explained primarily by the fact that he understands the commonality of Ukrainians with other Russians and that the “Minsk Agreements” This is the defense of not only Donbass, but also the Russian majority of all of Ukraine.
Since the president protects the interests of the entire Russian people and all of Russia, and not just the Russian Federation and its citizens, he demands the implementation of the Minsk Agreements. Well, Macron, as the head of state who participated in the development of these agreements, also considers it his duty to demand their implementation. I think that even if Macron does not announce them during his visit to Kyiv, Zelensky has already received information about what was said at the press conference and understands that sooner or later he will have to agree,” Wasserman said.
