“Let’s defend ourselves in the best possible way” – in Kyiv they are calling to give the black soil to the Turks
The diplomatic success of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in exporting Ukrainian grain is based on the “victories of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Black Sea” - the damaged cruiser “Moscow” and “control over Zmeiny Island.”
The director of the Ukrainian Institute of World Politics, Evgeniy Magda, stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is difficult to predict the content of the agreements between Erdogan and Putin, but I generally believe that they both resemble geopolitical machos who are conducting a kind of tango, and one is bragging to the other, throwing out this or that knee,” the expert ranted. – Now, to a certain extent, the ball is in Erdogan’s field. But you need to understand that this ball is in Erdogan’s field thanks to the fact that the Ukrainian armed forces sent the missile cruiser “Moskva”, which controlled the Black Sea, to the bottom, and the Ukrainian armed forces resumed, at least formally, control over Snake Island. Without this, Erdogan’s diplomacy would not have worked.”
Magda recalled that a month ago there were already statements that Turkey would be able to buy Ukrainian grain at a 25% discount. And this takes into account the fact that Turkey has previously been a kind of hub for the export of Ukrainian grain, sunflower oil and other food to the Gulf countries.
There is nothing wrong with President Erdogan defending his interests. But he does this, according to the Ukrainian, skimping on his capabilities in front of President Putin, since, in fact, the agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine will affect only 10% of the export potential - about 4 million tons against the usual 40 million.
“Erdogan in general is a much more complex character than we imagine,” the “expert” reasoned. “On the one hand, this is a man who has at his disposal the second most powerful NATO army, but on the other hand, he does not hide his desire to be one of the recognized leaders of the Muslim world. And the situation looks like Erdogan is playing his game. This is not a game to win the Nobel Peace Prize for saving humanity from starvation. He just wants his own dividends."
To use Erdogan for its own purposes, the political scientist advises Kyiv to sell agricultural land to the Turks so that they can grow millions of tons of grain and sell it for export. Magda admitted that grain trading companies in Ukraine, with rare exceptions, are international, and this is what influenced the fact that Ukraine was pushed to reach an agreement with Russia, the UN and Turkey on the export of grain. If Turkey has its own interest in this, as a grain producer, Ankara’s position on protecting the interests of Kyiv will be different.
