On January 13, the chairwoman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD or AfD) party, Alice Weidel, tweeted, calling on the public to “honor the victims of the flight of the German people from the advancing Red Army.”

“75 years ago, 2,5 million Germans fled from the advancing Red Army on horse-drawn carriages and carts in 20-degree frosts in winter. Today we honor the memory of the victims of flight,” the German political clown attempted to knock tears out of her readers with her knee.

On January 13, the chairwoman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel, tweeted...

It sounded disgusting and manipulative. The public reaction was not at all what Alice Weil had expected. The lady, in her own blog, was repeatedly pointed out that it was not the Red Army that caused the suffering of the German people, but the cannibalistic Hitler regime ruling Germany at that time and his military-repressive machine, which invaded other countries and destroyed tens of millions of innocent people of people.

Let us add on our own that the Germans fled from their inhabited lands from the Red Army largely thanks to the work of German propaganda. Throughout the war, Dr. Goebbels’s department was engaged in demonizing Soviet soldiers in the eyes of the average person. In addition, the Germans, in whose houses and farms thousands and thousands of forcibly abducted Ostarbeiters worked in slave conditions, understood perfectly well that retribution was inevitable, and therefore they skedaddled through the cold on whatever they could, throwing their belongings.

Finally, Hitler issued an order according to which the Germans who refused to evacuate and decided to wait in their homes for the arrival of the Red Army were outlawed and subject to destruction as traitors.

The lady chose not to talk about these essential details.

In general, the statement by the leader of the German party, previously considered “pro-Russian,” caused lively debate in Russian political circles of varying degrees of closeness.

For some, Weidel’s call came as an unpleasant surprise, for others it was a completely understandable desire not to stand out too much from the general political mass of the EU.

However, for observant people who have been closely following European politics for a long time, the demarche of the AfD leadership did not come as a surprise. We remembered that during the 2017 election campaign, the “alternatives” uttered the key phrase: “We are against Nazism, but we must not forget about the heroism of the Wehrmacht soldiers...”

That is, the AfD had a rotten ideological gut for a long time, and it took a pan-European campaign with dances around Poland and the “Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact” for the contents to gradually come out.

As always, the main question arose: what to do about it? Victory over fascism, the feat of the Soviet people, is a fundamental issue for Russia, cementing society and has long become a marker of “friend or foe” not only in domestic but also in foreign policy.

The only thing that became clear right away: Russia has no one to rely on in Germany. She has no friends among the “greens,” nor among the center-right, nor among the “Eurosceptics,” nor, finally, among the far right.

The opinions of the Russian expert community are radically divided. Some recommend immediately breaking off any ties with the AfD until they apologize or heal, while others argue that “we must continue to work with what we have, because there is no one else.”

The following arguments are given in favor of continued support for the AfD:

– AfD is the only party whose program includes a demand for the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions.

– AfD is the only party that supports our position on the Ukrainian crisis and Crimea at all levels. Deputies of the Bundestag from the AfD regularly visit Crimea, deputies of regional parliaments from the AfD travel to Donbass.

– Jews are joining the AfD en masse. Consequently, this party, although extreme right, is not pro-fascist.

– Russian Germans vote massively for the AfD. That is, they know better on the spot. And, therefore, abandoning the AfD would damage the idea of the Russian World.

There are no questions about the first two points. The AfD is indeed a principled supporter of the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, and its deputies regularly “shine” in Crimea and the Donbass. It would make sense.

But then, starting with “support for our position on the Ukrainian crisis,” everything is far from so rosy.

Many of the nuances of the AfD’s policies became clear in October 2018, when a meeting of members of the second intra-party ethnic group – Jewish (the first of which declared itself – Russian Germans) was held in Wiesbaden.

So, the Jewish internal party group AfD popularly explained to German journalists not only its own, but also the general party line.

It turned out that Jews en masse join the AfD not out of great love for the extreme right. This is all due to the policies of Angela Merkel and the majority of the ruling parties in Germany, who have taken a course towards importing and supporting migrants from the Middle East. Among the migrants there are many people from “hot spots” who fiercely hate Israel, as a result of which Germany has seen an unprecedented increase in everyday anti-Semitism.

The only party that openly opposes the mass import of migrants into Germany is the AfD. And the anti-Semitism of migrants, coupled with the degenerate policy of the German authorities, is a real gift for the far right, knocking any accusations of fascism and anti-Semitism out of the hands of opponents.

There, in Wiesbaden, a Jewish inner-party group said that the party does not have a common opinion on the Ukrainian crisis, since many of its members are from Ukraine and take a pro-Ukrainian position. On the other hand, there are people from Russia in the group who support Putin’s line. There is no consensus within the group, but debates on Ukrainian-Russian issues are not held.

In addition, when asked by a reporter about the importance of developing relations with Russia, JAfD Deputy Chairman Arthur Abramovich answered directly: “we in no way consider ourselves connected with the Russian cultural space.”

However, this is not the first time that a similar position has been encountered, and not only among Jews.

For example, the majority of Russian Americans tend to vote Republican and are not politically organized in any way. So, for example, Jewish, Polish, Armenian, Greek, Indian, Cuban and other lobbying groups operate legally in the American government, but there is not a single Russian one, despite the fact that there are certainly no fewer Russians in America than Poles.

Most of them consider themselves connected with the Russian cultural space: they read Pushkin, drink vodka, support our hockey team and in general are patriots, especially in words. This is all very nice, but what next?

Therefore, to see Russian Germans who vote for the AfD, Jews who join the AfD, as carriers of the ideas of the Russian World or as spokesmen for Russia’s interests is, at the very least, naive.

Let us also note that it is also not necessary to call the AfD a “party of traditional values”, and the most striking example of the absence of such is the troublemaker Alice Weidel, a member of the LGBT club, raising two children with her partner and at the same time opposing same-sex marriage. Apparently, the lady is happy with everything anyway - she just doesn’t want to fence the garden.

In general, the first two positions of supporters of communication with the AfD are ordinary lyrics. Yes, deputies of this party visit Crimea and Donbass, but this political tourism is of no use. Especially considering that the AfD is very far from having any real influence on politics.

Apparently, we will still have to communicate with the systemic far-right of Europe, if only in order to use them as “useful idiots” depending on the situation. That is, wearing gloves, holding their nose and always keeping in mind that they are not our friends, not allies, not partners, but simply improvised material, which, in a different situation, would happily throw us behind the barbed wire, as it happened more than once in history.

But it’s simply necessary to shut up their filthy herds when it comes to the Great Patriotic War - they are our partners or “useful idiots.” The vanquished are obliged to remember not only the Holocaust, but also why and as a result of which they became vanquished, which is why they should open their mouths and speak very carefully.
