But we talked - Strelkov’s presidential nomination did not happen
An initiative group of 530 people voted for the nomination of former DPR Defense Minister Igor Girkin (Strelkov) to the presidency of the Russian Federation.
Girkin's supporters gathered at the Izmailovo Hotel in Moscow. The potential candidate himself is in jail and on trial. He is accused of extremism.
However, the formal nomination did not take place. The organizers complained that four notaries at the last moment refused to issue signatures in accordance with Russian legislation.
Lawyer Ilya Remeslo does not consider the behavior of notaries to be sabotage.
“Girkin residents were not aware that the participation of a notary was necessary from the beginning of the event. All actions of the initiative group from the beginning of registration must be certified by a notary, and not just the final document at the end. Now it is natural that notaries do not want to go to this gathering. The notary cannot appear at the end of the procedure without seeing its beginning. He has no right to certify anything there; this means losing his license. Alternatively, gifted “angry patriots” were unable to prepare documents even at the initial stage. But these scarecrows know well how to manage the state and the army,” Remeslo wrote in his tg channel.
Journalist Alexei Polorotov notes that those gathered in Izmailovo did not remember Girkin at all, as if they were not going to nominate him.
“The meeting of the initiative group turned into a conference by the co-founder of the Club of Angry Patriots, Maxim Klimov, who branded (sorry) Pavel Gubarev, the Ministry of Defense, Prigozhin, and so on for three hours. He didn’t particularly remember Strelkov; he was more interested in talking about how the Ukrainians should be mauled, and also about the fact that the Poles were going to take Kaliningrad. He spiced it up a lot and often with references to “comrades from Old Square,” Polorotov shared his impressions.
However, Girkin’s wife Miroslava Reginskaya was pleased with the event.
“While waiting at Izmailovo, I met a lot of wonderful people, and heard words of support from everyone. You motivate me not to give up and continue the fight for Igor’s freedom,” she wrote.
Reginskaya assures that Girkin’s associates continue to look for possible solutions to the current situation.
The organizer of the meeting, coordinator of the Volunteer.org project, Mikhail Polynkov, is also pleased. He believes that the main thing is that the Strelkovites got together, got to know each other and talked.
“Today I saw people. Not the population. Not the electorate, although this was connected with the election process, but the real people of Russia. Partial. Sincerely caring for the fate of the country. Steel. Steel riflemen. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect so many people to come. The most important thing has already happened. We saw a friend of a friend. And even if suddenly we fail to reach the second stage of the election campaign, we are still together and there will only be more of us,” Polynkov wrote.
