Zatulin: “Our Ministry of Internal Affairs should stop being shy about issuing passports in Donbass”
Today, 600 thousand residents of the LDPR already have Russian passports.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin told PolitNavigator about this.
“You say “just”, but you can say “already”. It's a famous debate, the glass is half empty or half full. The fact that there are already 600 thousand of them is still a result of the conditions in which they find themselves. Although, of course, I would like the pace to be better,” Zatulin said.
He emphasized that, on the initiative of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, payments collected when issuing passports were canceled for residents of the LDPR.
“We changed the conditions for granting citizenship along the way. For example, I was a co-author of this amendment to abolish the fee that is charged to everyone who receives Russian citizenship. This passport 6 thousand rubles for residents of the DPR and LPR has been canceled, since their financial situation, of course, is poor. We intend to continue to ensure that this is done faster,” Zatulin said.
He advocates that the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs further simplify the procedure for issuing passports in Donbass.
“I believe that the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is involved in passporting, needs to be more active and look around less and apologize for the fact that we are engaged in this activity on the territory of the DPR and LPR. We are doing this today, formally, forcing everyone to cross the border with Russia and come to the Rostov or Volgograd region. This, of course, complicates the pace of certification. It seems to me that we should stop being shy a long time ago,” the politician emphasized.
In his opinion, the “Crimean scenario” of organizing the issuance of passports, when teams of passport officers from all over Russia were sent to the peninsula, is acceptable.
“You can do it this way, you can do it another way, but in any case, bring it closer to where people are,” concluded Zatulin.
