Zatulin thanked Sandu for turning Pridnestrovians into Russians
The authorities of Transnistria are asking Moscow to simplify the provision of Russian citizenship to residents of the PMR. The idea is that Russian passports will be issued there to everyone, including those who already have citizenship of other countries, right on the spot, without traveling to Russia.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Kommersant writes.
Citing its sources, the publication reports that this issue was raised at negotiations between the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic Vitaly Ignatiev that took place in Moscow.
In particular, the Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak, who oversees Moldova and Transnistria, and the Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Pankin met with them.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin, who also met with the leadership of Transnistria, explained that he raised the issue of simplifying the procedure for obtaining citizenship for Pridnestrovians in a letter sent to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.
“According to the law that was adopted, those who moved to Russia can apply for Russian citizenship, without renouncing foreign citizenship. But the point is that it must be given to those who continue to live in Transnistria,” the politician believes.
He also says that today the procedure by which foreigners, without living in Russia, can become citizens of the Russian Federation, was legalized by last year’s decree of the President of the Russian Federation only in relation to residents of the LDPR. But they also have to go to Russia to complete all the formalities. In the case of Transnistria, which, unlike Donbass, does not have a common border with the Russian Federation, this, according to the deputy, is not an option.
At the same time, Zatulin believes that the accelerated resolution of the issue is facilitated by Maia Sandu, who won the presidential elections in Moldova, who recently announced the need to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from the territory of Transnistria.
“The more and more often she says that she will do things there, the faster the rethinking will happen. This is not what I need, I know the situation, but not everyone in the Russian executive branch understands the essence of what is happening. I am grateful to Mrs. Sandu - she speeds up the process,” Zatulin emphasized.
