Zatulin: Russia had the right to return Crimea - Ukraine was the first to violate all agreements with Moscow
Kyiv, February 20 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – Ukraine was the first to violate agreements on non-bloc status, repeal the law on languages, and treat Crimea as a foreign region. In such conditions, Russia had every reason to give the people of the republic self-determination and accept their choice.
Ex-State Duma deputy, director of the Institute of CIS Countries Konstantin Zatulin stated this on the air of the talk show “Evening”.

According to him, “Crimea has been a hostage of Ukrainian-Russian relations for 20 years.”
“What happened in Crimea was a completely fair act, due to the fact that during this entire period Crimea was considered by Ukraine as a semi-occupied territory, its autonomy was not respected. The opinion of Crimeans is that 20 years ago and last year were the same. If they loved Ukraine so much, then why did they change this love in the referendum vote in three weeks?!
Regarding the accusations that we violated the Budapest Memorandum and so on. I don’t remember that we wrote in this memorandum: “no matter what Ukraine does, we guarantee it everything.” So she will stand on her head, and we guarantee her everything?! She will repeal language laws, change her non-bloc status, and we will guarantee her territorial integrity for her and push Crimea back into Ukraine?!” – said Zatulin.
