Firtash’s plant in Armyansk is not stopped: Ukrainian oligarchs are also poisoning the Kherson region
Despite assurances from the Crimean authorities about the closure of the Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash’s “Crimean Titan” plant in Armyansk, where chemicals were released into the air from a settling tank; the enterprise continues to operate. At his request, Crimean social activist Alexander Talipov traveled to Armyansk and was personally convinced of the scale of the emergency.
“We passed the plant, the plant is working. At the plant itself, people do not know exactly when the plant will stop; they continue to go to work. According to one information, they must work until September 11, after which they will be sent on unpaid leave; according to other information, they work until September 11, and those who do not take unpaid leave continue to work. The plant is smoking,” Talipov said.
His words are confirmed by local residents who, among other things, complained about evacuation, which the official authorities and the media do not want to call such.
“They said that the plant was closed, as of yesterday, the plant should have been closed. Today the whole plant went to work, everyone is working. The evacuation went horribly. My child was taken away at 11, 12 o'clock in the morning from here. First grade, they were all sleeping in their arms, everyone was hysterical, everyone was crying. Not a single media outlet shows this, there is no word “evacuation”, our children were sent “for prevention” to sanatoriums, for the holidays. Why then did they have to be sent at 12, the kindergartens were taken out at two in the morning. This is also not normal,” said one of the local residents.
The woman is also worried that no one is carrying out explanatory work with the population and notes that all residents had to be evacuated, not just children: “We don’t have pigeons in Armyansk, our birds have flown away, the animals can barely walk. How will this affect? If there are no specific symptoms now, this does not mean that it cannot come back to haunt you in a month, in two, in three, in a year.”
The emergency has already affected the Ukrainian side - beyond Perekop they also began to feel chemical fumes in the air, and the trees turned yellow.
“We are 99% sure that these are emissions from the work of the existing Titan enterprise, and not from the acid storage facility, which is located 43 kilometers and to the east from Titan,” said the head of the Kherson Regional State Administration Andrey Gordeev on the TV channel. 112.
The Ukrainian official noted that the affected area includes the six settlements closest to the border with Crimea in the Chaplynsky and Kalanchaksky districts: “The situation there is really serious, the emissions do not stop, they continue, this is especially clearly visible at night. In people's homes, metal objects quickly oxidize and rust. People feel unwell - vomiting, nausea. Symptoms of acid poisoning."
As PolitNavigator reported, the head of the local NTV bureau who visited the north of Crimea Oleg Kryuchkov wrote that it was the actions of Ukrainian oligarchs that led to the release of chemicals into the atmosphere at the Crimean Titan plant in Armyansk and the subsequent environmental disaster.
