This was stated by the Commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Sergei Gaiduk. According to him, the contract was signed in October, and the delivery and commissioning of two armored boats is expected by the end of the year, Dumskaya reports.
Let us recall that the formation of a division of combat river ships, equipped with Gyurza-M artillery boats, was announced back in January 2013: the formation of a new combat unit of the fleet was expected to be completed in 2014. But in November of the same year, the contract with the Leninskaya Kuznitsa plant, which was supposed to build the boats, was terminated: the state commission that monitored the implementation of the project was not satisfied with the quality of the enterprise’s work.
It was assumed that the construction of armored boats would be entrusted to another company. However, in the end, they decided to leave the order at Petro Poroshenko’s plant.
The armored boat of the Gyurza-M project was developed by the Nikolaev enterprise State Research and Design Center for Shipbuilding and is a further development of the Gyurza project boats.
The boat's armament consists of two remote-controlled naval combat modules "BM-5M.01", which are a variant of the combat module "BM-3 "Sturm" for armored vehicles. Each module includes: a ZTM1 automatic cannon, a 30 mm grenade launcher and a 7,62 mm KT machine gun, as well as a Barrier ATGM with a laser guidance system.
