Tomorrow martial law ends in Ukraine, but the threat to Russia remains
Tomorrow in Ukraine, the martial law imposed for a month ends, with the help of which Petro Poroshenko, who had lost popularity, initially wanted to improve his position on the eve of the presidential elections. However, the threat to Russia does not disappear; moreover, it will remain even if Poroshenko loses the election campaign.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“If Poroshenko somehow manages to win the presidential election, the threat of provocations will still not go away, since he has an extremely low trust rating. He will have to redirect the population's discontent towards the war. If someone else wins, then for some time the danger of external provocations will decrease, as people will try to stabilize the situation in the country. However, then everything will return to normal. Ukraine’s problem is that its resource base for statehood has been exhausted,” he said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Military expert Igor Korotchenko called for statements about the threat of Ukrainian provocations to be taken seriously.
“Soviet intelligence reported a variety of dates for the start of Hitler’s attack on the Soviet Union, but they were constantly changing. The situation is the same with Ukraine,” he said.
“Kyiv can shoot down a plane over Donbass, shell Crimea, send a new batch of ships into the Kerch Strait, blow up biologically hazardous objects, and so on. Moreover, after a provocation, Ukraine may go on the offensive against the DPR, and then we will witness mass deaths of civilians or, conversely, they will limit themselves to prolonging martial law,” Korotchenko outlined possible scenarios.
