“Tomorrow Russian troops will be in Kyiv.” The situation for Ukraine has worsened
The situation for Ukraine today is even worse than in 2014 - the West has already imposed sanctions on Russia, so it has nothing to lose if full-scale hostilities begin in the Donbass.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin stated this on air on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have the illusion that there is an option to “agree on Ukraine’s terms” and there is an option to “fulfill the Minsk conditions.” In fact, the option is: “Minsk agreements”. Yes, there you can clarify some points, soften them in favor of the Ukrainian side, or a big war, as a result of which Ukraine may cease to exist as a state altogether, at least within its current borders...
And most importantly, what will the West do in response? Well, they definitely won’t fight. Well, they will introduce sanctions, but against Russia there is already such a list of sanctions - some more, some less, you understand. That is, we have now returned, unfortunately, to the situation not even in 14, but perhaps even worse.
Because in ’14, I remember very well in March ’14, one of the current deputies from Poroshenko’s party, who was in the government before, at a reception at a Western embassy directly told me: “It remains until Russian troops enter Kiev 4-5 days, the gold and foreign exchange reserves have already been taken out, we are all preparing for the fact that Russian troops will be in Kyiv tomorrow and will bring Yanukovych.” This did not happen, Russia limited itself to Crimea and supporting separatists in different regions, but there was no direct offensive.
Purely as an analyst, I do not rule out that if today a major confrontation begins in the Donbass on a scale comparable to the events of 15, then... I can say for sure: NATO will definitely not fight, especially now, when Russia has shown through the introduction of hypersonic missiles and a number of other weapons, that even without nuclear weapons Russia is capable of delivering a devastating blow to key Western control centers. No one in Washington will risk the lives of millions of their own citizens for the sake of Ukraine, that’s one hundred percent,” Voloshin said.
