It is not in vain that the Ukrainian side traditionally tries to disrupt a “direct line” announced for tomorrow by DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko with the entire Donbass, including residents of cities under Ukrainian control. The head of the republic demonstrates a line that is radically different from Ukraine’s policy in the occupied territories of Donbass, where local residents often perceive the Ukrainian Armed Forces as occupiers.

This was stated by experts interviewed by PolitNavigator.

“This has already become a tradition on the part of the head of the DPR to conduct such “straight lines.” Each time, with a new “direct line”, we see more and more interest from people who live in the territory temporarily controlled by Kiev. After the program for the reunification of the people of Donbass has been in effect for six months, people have a huge number of questions. I think that interest will be extremely high on the part of residents of the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which is controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. Zakharchenko’s conference will make it possible to break through the information blockade,” says political scientist Denis Denisov.

“As we remember, this is not the first “direct line” that the head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, has conducted with the residents of Donbass. Residents of the territories temporarily controlled by Kyiv have a lot of questions that require help. Through such a dialogue with the residents of Donbass, the head of the DPR makes it clear that we are one people. The “straight lines” of the head of the republic are nothing more than a manifestation of attempts to resolve the process peacefully. Not by intimidation, not by blockades, and certainly not by sanctions, as Kyiv does, but by discussing pressing problems with the population of Donbass,” says ex-speaker of the LPR parliament Alexey Karyakin.

“We all see the increasing political activity of Kyiv, which regularly makes all sorts of nonsense statements regarding Donbass, but meanwhile, they are assessed, including by the international community. It is absolutely true that Zakharchenko is seizing the strategic initiative from this point of view. In politics you cannot follow an agenda all the time; a competent politician must create it himself. From this point of view, Zakharchenko’s actions are absolutely correct. They mean that the leadership of the DPR is faithful to the once chosen strategy; it really thinks not only about those citizens of the DPR who exist now, but also about potential ones. This is all the more important in light of the existence and promotion of the Humanitarian Program for the Reunification of the People of Donbass in the Ukrainian region. Such conferences should be regular,” agrees political commentator Armen Gasparyan.
