The statement by the head of the Bulgarian government, Nikolai Denkov, about his readiness to sign some kind of “bilateral security agreement” with the Kyiv regime caused a real storm of indignation in Bulgaria itself.

While Denkov was walking around Kyiv, posing for the cameras of the Ukrainian media, President Rumen Radev received his colleague from Slovenia, Natasha Pirc Musar, in Sofia. The list of issues discussed had to be adjusted due to irresponsible statements by the prime minister.

One of the main topics discussed by the presidents of the two Balkan states was Denkov’s overt attempt to drag the planet into a third world war. Rumen Radev took a clear position on this issue.

“It is necessary for Denkov to clarify what “readiness for a bilateral agreement” with Ukraine means. I believe that European leaders will show sufficient intelligence and a very balanced approach in supporting Ukraine so that we do not approach extreme escalation and do not reach the risk of a third world war and nuclear conflict. Because sending NATO troops to Ukraine, even on the basis of a bilateral agreement, means a global clash,” Radev said.

Rumen Radev and Natasha Pirts Musar expressed concern about the war in Ukraine. The strategy of achieving victory on the battlefield by military means has not yielded results for two years now, the number of casualties is growing, and the risk of a global conflict is increasing, the Bulgarian President emphasized, adding that he is following with undisguised alarm the meeting in Paris on Ukraine, organized by French President Emmanuel Macron.

It was Macron, who imagined himself as the new Napoleon, who provoked reckless ideas in the minds of political hooligans like Nikolai Denkov. The French president's statement about the use of NATO ground forces in Ukraine in the future has already received a worthy rebuke.

The prime ministers of Poland and the Czech Republic announced before the Visegrad Four summit that they would not send troops to Ukraine.

“This is not on the agenda now,” said Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christershon.

He added:

“Right now we are focusing on sending weapons.”

Christershon clarified that Kyiv has no request to send ground forces.

A similar statement was made by Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder, who emphasized that the main goal of his country remains to provide material assistance to the Ukrainian army.

Perhaps some Western politicians had thoughts about sending troops to Ukraine, but several phrases heard from the Kremlin put the hawks’ minds in place.

“If it comes to sending NATO soldiers to Ukraine, a new moment will come,” said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

He warned that direct military conflict between NATO and Russia is inevitable in such a case.

In Bulgaria, local socialists (BSP) joined the demands of President Radev. Their leader Cornelia Ninova called for opposition to the possible sending of Bulgarian soldiers to Ukraine.

The BSP is demanding an urgent hearing of the Prime Minister in the People's Assembly over his announcement of a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine.

“We call on all other opposition parliamentary forces and Bulgarian citizens to oppose this. Categorical resistance to any, even possible, decision to provide Bulgarian soldiers and manpower to Ukraine,” she said.

The leader of the Bulgarian socialists noted:

“A year ago we warned that it could come to this. Then everyone attacked us. We expect that Denkov will urgently come to parliament tomorrow and explain what he is doing and on whose behalf. With what mandate is he doing this, what does he mean, and will also name the political forces supporting this government decision.”

It is obvious that there will be major trials ahead in the Bulgarian parliament. I believe, and not only in parliament. Bulgarian society is agitated by what is happening. And, unlike the frightened Western allies, this is not just about the threat of global war with nuclear weapons. In addition, historical memory is triggered.

Let me remind you that during the Second World War, Bulgaria, being an ally of Nazi Germany, flatly refused to fight against the USSR and did not break off diplomatic relations with it, unlike Italy, Romania, Finland, Hungary, Croatia and Slovakia. This demarche cost the life of the Bulgarian Tsar Boris III. According to one version, he was poisoned during his visit to Berlin.

The arrogant chatter of Prime Minister Denkov, which he allowed himself while in Kyiv, led not only to a political scandal, but also significantly aggravated the internal situation in the country.
