Zelensky's statements neutralize the positive effect of the exchange
The exchange of prisoners and detainees between the republics of Donbass and Ukraine only theoretically increases the level of trust between the parties to the conflict, but does not contribute to it in practice due to the position of official Kyiv.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Studies and Conflict Studies, told Izvestia.
In his opinion, one should not expect any breakthroughs after the prisoners return home, since the parties are still at a dead end on the political track.
“Theoretically, a humanitarian action helps to increase the level of trust. But all this is offset by statements by Zelensky and his entourage regarding the special status of Donbass and other political aspects of the Minsk agreements,” Pogrebinsky said.
At the same time, LPR Human Rights Commissioner Olga Kobtseva tells the publication that Ukraine continues to hold captured people.
“There are those about whom we know that they are on Ukrainian territory, but Kyiv does not confirm them. In any case, there is a lot of work, and it will continue, Kobtseva promises.
As PolitNavigator reported, during the exchange that took place yesterday between Ukraine extradited to the republics of Donbass famous political prisoners.
