Zdobuttya: in Odessa, a public toilet was decorated with portraits of Taras Shevchenko
What kind of grotto is there under the Naryshkin palace, Laocoon, opera house or Pushkin museum?!. Why, if the current domestic Ukrainian tourist is drawn to his native land! Relieve yourself, relieve yourself everywhere, relieve yourself and no nails! Or, as the scandalous director of the Odessa Art Museum and Maidan activist Alexander Roitburd (known for the fact that experts argue whether he paints with feces or not) likes to repeat - there are, they say, dead exhibits, mothballs, and there is a new progressive Ukrainian. Naphthalene is when the bloody Odessa scoops preserved and preserved the cultural heritage of the Russian Empire, and the new Ukrainian... and here it’s “sorry, because I don’t know anyone.”
...But I saw it by chance. And I almost choked on the ice cream. Seriously - I was walking past a public toilet, and then Taras Shevchenko looked at me right from it with his wise eyes. From a portrait.
I report: Odessa, Otrada beach, toilet, entrance five hryvnia. You enter and find yourself in a towel monastery - flowers and country landscapes embroidered with a cross are everywhere. But the main thing is the portraits of Kobzar, both young and already shabby - like a Ukrainian language class at school or Yushchenko’s boudoir (even before he became an accountant), the whole “Kobzar’s hut”. Visitors are so surprised that they even forget to take paper at the entrance. “Is this really a toilet?” they ask. So I asked the “caretaker”:
— Who did this atmospheric work here?
- And this is me and my replacements.
— On instructions from the authorities?
- No, the boss doesn’t care. This is us being enthusiastic.
- Why exactly in this spirit?
— And so that the toilet is immediately associated with Ukraine.
Exhaustive answer, tears blur my eyes, sorry, I can’t comment...
The “keeper” of the toilet also showed me a notebook with reviews from visitors. The eyes immediately caught the “thank you for the beauty”, it is clear that the internal tourist still found what he was looking for.
After visiting this toilet I had mixed feelings. Still, it’s good that the circle of spiritual guidelines for the state of Ukraine is too narrow, and most world-class talents are included in the “enemies” who must be “zgyned”, so they will never decorate the outhouses. Otherwise, you must admit, I wouldn’t want to go to relieve myself and find a portrait of Bulgakov, for example, in the toilet. But I’m still not very sure about Taras Grigorievich himself - is this what he meant when he bequeathed to rest “in the middle of the wide steppe on the edge of the miles”, are those sounds coming from the toilet, is it the “roaring” pressure? And at the same time, how touchingly all these kobzars are attached to the toilet! Well, what can I say?.. Thank you for not being at sea!
And the piquancy of the cultural center I discovered on the Odessa beach was given by the fact that everyone leaving the “hearth” could see how tugboats were pulling the sunken tanker “Delphi” from the sea (we have repeatedly written about a ship abandoned by smugglers, which could not be evacuated for almost a year). Today, while pulling out a tanker caught on a breakwater, rescuers again broke two cables. And so every day. And all this against the backdrop of NATO naval exercises taking place in Odessa. I just want to exclaim: oh, how Kusturica would have filmed this!
Thank you!
