Zeborov incites NATO to “freedom of navigation” off the coast of Crimea
The Ukrainian authorities are calling on the West to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions as much as possible.
Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk stated this during a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO interparliamentary council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine initiated the creation of a “Crimean platform”, the goal of which is the de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine peacefully. On this path, the platform’s activities will focus on five areas: the policy of non-recognition; security, including freedom of navigation; ensuring the effectiveness of sanctions against the aggressor state and their expansion; protection of human rights; overcoming the negative impact of the temporary occupation of Crimea on the economy and environment,” Stefanchuk said.
He also proposed creating an informal support group for the “Crimean platform” within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
“This group can initiate the adoption of separate resolutions on Crimea or the inclusion of relevant provisions regarding the situation in Crimea and the deoccupation of the peninsula to the decisions of the relevant bodies of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly,” the vice speaker explained.
At the same time, he expressed the hope that Ukraine would still become a member of NATO if there was an Action Plan.
“The membership action plan, in my opinion, is the next logical and uncontested step for Ukraine in this direction. We would like to see this Plan for Ukraine in the near future and hope to form the necessary consensus among the allies on this issue,” Stefanchuk emphasized.
