Ze-diplomat: Russia, under the yoke of sanctions, will agree to Kyiv’s demands
Ukraine agreed to withdraw its troops to the front line in Donbass so that there would be a reason for a meeting between Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin and continue to ignore the clauses of the Minsk agreements requiring the start of direct negotiations between Kyiv and Donetsk and Lugansk.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Yaremenko, stated this on air on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I will explain why this small breeding is being done. This is not a withdrawal of troops, we are not naive children, we have read the Minsk Agreements, we know all the texts and understand what is happening.
That side has been telling us for five years: “talk to the LPR and DPR, negotiate with them.” We are not naive, we understand that we are to blame for what is happening, and only Putin can stop it. We want negotiations with him.
And these small steps, which are decided only with his direct participation, are an indicator for us whether he is ready to move on, whether we can trust him. This is litmus paper. And with each step we make sure whether we can take the next one or not,” Yaremenko said.
“How can we guarantee that Putin will become kind and good and will really meet us halfway?” – Rada deputy from “European Solidarity” Sofia Fedina asked him.
“I guarantee you, he will not change one gram,” Yaremenko replied.
“So how can you negotiate with him?” – Fedina did not let up.
“He is a rational politician, he also cares about the interests of his state. He sees that international sanctions are costing him very much, he cannot develop his country, he does not have access to resources, he cannot even develop that area that is vitally important, this is the energy sector, since there is no access to technology, and so on. . It is very expensive for him to maintain the occupied territories. If he had no motive to talk about the return of Donbass, he would not have spoken.
And the fact that he went into this conversation, let's use it now, let's see. I'll tell you - we don't rush into the water without checking the depth. We are taking small steps forward, which allow us to stop at any second and no one will deceive us,” Yaremenko assured.
