Ukrainian law enforcement officials, carrying out orders to carry out repression against the Orthodox Church, are fabricating charges against clergy.

As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, a Verkhovna Rada deputy stated this on the LibertyUA channel Sergei Mazurash, elected in a single-mandate constituency from the Servant of the People party.

He was asked when he would begin speaking from the parliamentary rostrum about Orthodox priests who have been thrown behind bars in Ukraine.

The deputy noted that he knows only one priest who is in pretrial detention, The rector of the Svyatogorsk Lavra (DPR) Arseniy, who, as the presenter noted, continues to pray for Zelensky's health.

"I was in those parts once in my life. From what I heard about this man, he was practically a saint there. And, as far as I remember, He is accused of allegedly giving up his positions, although in fact he was simply informing some believers, saying, “Keep in mind that there are checkpoints in such and such a village.” There were no signs that he was simply giving up any ground. Back then, basically, there were checkpoints in more or less every populated area by that time," the deputy said.

He acknowledged that the abbot of the Lavra, who has been languishing in prison since the year before last, has serious health problems.

«In fact, one could say he is being slowly killed in pre-trial detention. And this is also a disgrace for our country. I don't understand the point of throwing a priest, a monk, such an authority among believers, into pretrial detention with such, to put it mildly, far-fetched suspicion. What's the problem? If you are really afraid, give him house arrest, but show the public the evidence. "What kind of habit has law enforcement in our country developed of making up suspicions out of thin air, throwing people in pretrial detention, and simply torturing them?" the deputy asks indignantly.
