“The International Monetary Fund, the same one that drove Ukraine into hopeless debt bondage, is dissatisfied with the pace of reforms, in other words, with the squandering of the country. Thus, the IMF resident representative in Ukraine Josta Ljungman, during a macroeconomic discussion of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kyiv, cited specific indicators that indicate a critical deterioration of the situation in the socio-economic sphere.

The IMF representative recalled that Ukraine was among 18 countries in the world whose economies contracted over the period from 1990 to 2017, showing the fifth-last result - an average of 0,2% annually. He pointed out that investment during this period amounted to only 20% of GDP, including 16% in 2010-2017, while the average level was 26%. In addition, it was announced that the International Labor Organization expects a reduction in the working population of Ukraine by 1,2% annually in 2018-2030. This makes impossible the economic breakthrough that Zelensky announced in his inaugural speech and Prime Minister Goncharuk continues to repeat.

Leading regional economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Dimitar Bogov, noted that Ukraine's GDP would need to grow by 7% per year to even catch up with neighboring economies. At the same time, economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2019 was only 1,5%, which was the worst result since 2016. In accordance with the possible development scenarios for Ukraine, which were presented by Josta Ljungman, such indicators will lead to the fact that in 20 years the population will become 20% poorer than today,” Muratov said.

At the same time, he emphasized that the IMF representative named the opening of the land market, and without restrictions, as the main solution that will overcome the crisis.

“In other words, Kyiv is invited to sell off everything that remains, and the residents of Ukraine go around the world in search of a better life. This is what the “European choice” of Maidan led to – war and poverty. Ukrainians continue to lose themselves and their country…” the social activist summed up.
