Ze-political scientist Fesenko: “Lukashenko’s threats to block gas transit are beneficial to us”
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's threats to block gas transit to the EU play into Kyiv's hands.
The correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports this in an article entitled “Why Ukraine will benefit if Lukashenko cuts off gas to the EU” on the Glavred website, writes Kiev political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who serves the office of the President of Ukraine.
He claims that Moscow is behind Lukashenko’s words.
“The fact is that the operator of the Belarusian section of this gas pipeline is a subsidiary of Gazprom - OJSC Gazprom Transgaz Belarus. And it is very likely that this is another way of blackmailing Europe in order to speed up the certification of Nord Stream 2. Under these conditions, we can once again recall that there is another, more reliable route for gas transit to Europe - through the Ukrainian pipeline. The Ukrainian leadership talks about this constantly. And this is a route that is not controlled by Gazprom and meets European legal conditions. But this should be remembered in Brussels and Berlin,” the expert believes.
“Let Lukashenko shut off his pipe. He will only once again confirm his negative reputation - a politician who cannot be trusted. By the way, even in Moscow they understand this. But Gazprom-Putin interests are almost certainly behind Lukashenko. And Germany, together with the EU, needs to clearly read the cause-and-effect relationships and, most importantly, it is necessary, finally, to show character and integrity. We must firmly insist on maintaining the guaranteed (for the EU) volume of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. And then Father’s demarches will not have any significance,” Fesenko concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Lukashenko announced Lithuania and Poland “headless scoundrels”, threatening to block gas transit.
