The Zee government will finally ruin planning and all Ukrainian statistics by conducting a census using SIM cards
Refusal to conduct a previously planned population census in Ukraine will make state planning, including budgeting, impossible.
Political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the most important issues that the Cabinet of Ministers had to address was the population census. And what do we hear?
We hear some ministers say that we probably don’t need a census anymore, we will conduct a population census using SIM cards.
We each have 4 SIM cards, some have 2, some have 3. That is, a census on SIM cards is not the same as a population census.
The idea of a population census was an absolutely normal idea. Let me remind you that our last census took place in 2001, after which there was no census.
This is actually a very dangerous situation. A population census is not just about counting citizens, but about understanding their material standard of living, understanding linguistic sociocultural (parameters), there is a whole set of different parameters that we can get from the population census.
A census needs to be carried out to understand what has happened to our population over five years. All parameters, even the budget, are calculated based on population.
But if we don’t know the population, how can we talk about any kind of budget planning? This is impossible.
Moreover, I want to say that even my colleagues are already saying that if a census is not carried out, then in the next elections we must prepare for the fact that the error in opinion polls will be 6-7%.
The population census is really very important; the country cannot vary its strategy without a census,” Yakubin warned.
