Since the Ukrainian army no longer has the strength and means for a new offensive, it needs to focus on defense and mobilization.
Former deputy minister for “temporarily occupied territories”, former head of the Lugansk region Georgy Tuka said this on the air of the Now Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the military component, I agree with one British general who said that this year Ukraine will have to be in a state of active defense and accumulate reserves to deliver a powerful blow.
We must honestly admit the failure of the counteroffensive, draw a conclusion, stock up on weapons and equipment. And in 2025 we can already expect some specific offensive actions. In 2024, Ukraine will be in a state of active defense,” Tuka said.
However, he emphasized that for this the authorities will have to strengthen mobilization, which is an extremely unpopular measure among the Ukrainian population.
“It’s clear that during this work the government’s ratings will fall. That is why the government intervenes, shifting responsibility either to the military or to the Cabinet of Ministers. Our bosses don’t want to spoil their ratings.
Moreover, the overwhelming majority of those who can be called draft dodgers are those who at one time voted for the president and his team,” added the former deputy minister.
