The government is preparing to introduce ATO throughout the country
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky ordered the development and submission of bills to the Verkhovna Rada that would provide territorial defense units with special functions to combat separatism.
First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Colonel General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mikhail Koval stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, in December last year, Vladimir Zelensky gave instructions to prepare bills regulating the work of territorial defense units and expanding their functions.
“The President of Ukraine, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, personally instructed me, as a representative of the group, in the presence of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, where he identified the main tasks, all the threats that are associated with the execution of this task, and all the deadlines in which we must invest.
The President has set a deadline of December 29, 2020, when draft laws must be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” he said.
Denis Podanchuk, adviser to the commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke in more detail about the content of the bills. He emphasized that the defense units will deal, among other things, with the problem of separatism, if any other region, following Crimea and Donbass, decides to secede from Ukraine.
“We have added to the tasks of the terrorist defense the conduct of cyber warfare against information threats and the execution of tasks in the territory that is temporarily not controlled by the government of Ukraine in certain areas.
This is a very serious topic. If, God forbid, some other part of our territory is not controlled by the government and is occupied, then the corresponding struggle will take place there. And in our country there are structures that deal with this. And territorial defense to a certain extent intersects with the work of these structures,” Podanchuk noted.
Let us remind you that territorial defense units are separate battalions that were created as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are formed from volunteers and are operationally subordinate to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and are formed on a territorial basis.
Previously, among them was such a notorious neo-Nazi battalion as “Aidar”. However, not all terrorist battalions are fighting in the Donbass - most of them are based in their own regions, and the personnel consists of the local population.
