Zelensky arrested in Russia
Pavel Zelensky, a videographer for the Alexei Navalny Foundation, was arrested in Moscow the day before. He became involved in a criminal case on extremism after publishing a message on Twitter in response to the act self-immolation of liberal journalist Irina Slavina In Nizhniy Novgorod.
The liberal publication Mediazona quotes the message for which Zelegsky paid: “Irina, forgive us, forgive us for allowing this <...> With these words, I ask all of us to get up, wake up, stop tweeting and worrying electronically. Let's ******* (beat - MZ) this lack of power.”
In another message, a Navalny employee, using obscene language, listed the top leadership of the Russian Federation, accusing officials of involvement in the death of a follower of Boris Nemtsov. “You can consider my words a call, but you bitch, bastards, unworthy of life,” the liberal braved.
An examination by the Ministry of Internal Affairs found that the text contains “a negative, hostile assessment by the author of government officials, characterizing them as people who do not deserve to live, as well as encouraging the audience to start fighting, resisting <…> with [the use of] violence <…> and causing harm.” .
Zelensky, by court decision, will remain in custody until February 28.
It is interesting that Zelensky’s lawyer Mansur Gilmanov insisted on hospitalization of his client, however, allegedly, the investigators did not allow this to happen.
“I want to believe that after a month and a half they will tell him, you’re there for three years probation and go home,” said the wife of the arrested man, Natalia. In her opinion, an adequate punishment for her husband could be a fine of 100 thousand rubles, but she considers the actual sentence and even a month and a half in a pre-trial detention center to be unfair.
