Why didn't they shoot? Zelensky arrived in Russian Kherson with impunity
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky visited Kherson, which recently came under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, the Reuters news agency reports.
“Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky visited Kherson on Monday, a few days after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the city in southern Ukraine after months of occupation,” an eyewitness told the agency.
The head of Ukraine addressed the military.
“We are moving forward... We are ready for peace, peace for our entire country,” Zelensky noted.
He thanked NATO and other allies for their support.
No other details have been provided yet, but a few days ago Zelensky’s trip to Kherson was announced by ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev.
Zelensky raises the Ukrainian flag in Russian Kherson.
“I am writing this so that Zelensky’s arrival in Kherson will not be a surprise to those who decide whether to hit their decision-making centers or not. I know that in our large state the decision-making process is not fast. No one decides anything on the spot, and management is often impossible to reach by phone.
Please decide in advance what to do if the Ukrainian decision-making center is in direct visibility of our artillery here, on our Russian soil,” Tsarev said then.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Zelensky visited Izyum, captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, where completely had a calm photo session with the Ukrainian command and senior officials of the Ministry of Defense. He voiced a portion of threats against Moscow, and from a city located within the reach of Russian fire weapons.
It is noteworthy that even the Ukrainian political scientist I was surprised why Russia didn’t even try eliminate the commander-in-chief of the enemy country.
Volunteer Alexey Zhivov, who provides support to the Russian Armed Forces, believes that Zelensky’s arrival in Kherson is evidence of preparations for freezing the conflict.
“Zelensky visited the Russian city of Kherson, occupied by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and said that he was ready for peace. Why he didn’t die at the hands of a random supporter of the Russian world, or a stray missile - that’s a good question! Apparently there is a bargaining over the conditions for freezing the conflict in the final stage,” Zhivov believes.
Belarusian political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky shares a similar opinion.
“G-20 summit. Respected partners asked not to allow the situation to escalate these days. Ugh...”, Shpakovsky commented on the visit of the President of Ukraine to Kherson.
And former Kiev journalist Alexander Chalenko, who left Ukraine after the 2014 coup, explained why Zelensky is not afraid to actually come to the front line.
“Reuters writes that Zelensky visited Kherson. I wasn't afraid. Why? Because he knows for DEFINITELY that the Great Russians will not shoot at him. Putin will not visit Donetsk, Lugansk, or Berdyansk. Why? Because he knows for DEFINITELY that the Ukrainians will definitely shoot at him,” Chalenko wrote.
