Zelensky gave the SBU two weeks: “we need real criminal cases”
President Vladimir Zelensky wants the Security Service to report in two weeks and demonstrate the first results of its work, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zelensky’s press service, he said this during a meeting with the acting head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov.
“We are now talking not about our personal relationships (Bakanov is a longtime friend of the president, worked in the Kvartal 95 studio - Ed.), but about a very serious responsibility to the people of Ukraine. You are the acting chairman of the SBU. I want not only me to respect you as a friend, but also for the people of Ukraine to respect you. We have very little time to reboot the SBU,” Zelensky noted.
The press service adds that, according to the head of state, SBU employees must prove not only their professionalism, but also their integrity as people. Security forces must work “for Ukraine, regardless of the name of the president.”
“There is a big demand for justice. We must show the public that the SBU really works. I would like the whole world to see that we started building Ukraine from scratch,” Zelensky said.
He also noted the importance of combating smuggling.
“We need real criminal cases. We need to deal with smuggling,” the president added.
Ivan Bakanov also spoke about the need to overcome smuggling and the shadow economy.
“The SBU will do everything possible to carry out your instructions as soon as possible,” noted V. And. O. head of the SBU.
He promised to strive to cultivate “human values” in the department.
“We always told each other the truth and did not let others tell lies. We never stole, did not let others steal, and always remained human. It seems to me that the priority of the SBU’s work should be such values. Under any circumstances, we must remain human,” Bakanov emphasized.
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator reported, on May 22, Zelensky appointed the former head of the Servant of the People party, his childhood friend and former lawyer of the Kvartal 95 studio, Ivan Bakanov, as the first deputy head of the SBU.
