Zelensky made a fatal mistake regarding Donbass
The new Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was supposed to make his first official visit not to Brussels or Moscow, but to Lugansk or Donetsk.
Former deputy head of the Presidential Administration, lawyer Andrei Portnov said this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Portnov, this would be the first gesture of the Ukrainian authorities towards rapprochement with the uncontrolled territories.
“What would I do if I were President Zelensky? I would publicly turn to President Putin and say: “I am the new head of state, I want to make my first visit to occupied Lugansk.”
Publicly, so to speak, and then there is a branching out of two options - yes, there is a security issue, but you can try to build it together with the OSCE, come.
There is a second question - you may be refused. But you did your best. You were supposed to come to occupied Donetsk, occupied Lugansk.
I may be speaking lightly from a security standpoint now. But giving such a signal to precisely those Ukrainian territories that are today outside Ukrainian control would be the first serious step towards rapprochement,” Portnov said.
