Zelensky goes to Turkey to make friends against Russia
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will visit Turkey on Friday to discuss common interests in Ankara, which boil down to confrontation with Russia.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Today, both Turkey and Ukraine consider Russia at least as a competitor, and even as an enemy. They have common interests - both political and commercial. There are common interests in the issue of Crimea.
It seems to me that the Turkish side needs this visit, since it provides an opportunity to demonstrate its influence in Ukraine and, thus, strengthen its negotiating position in relations with Russia.
Most likely, during Zelensky’s visit the issue of the so-called Crimean format, which Ukraine is trying to construct to start negotiations and in which it will try to raise the issue of Crimea,” said Ruslan Bortnik.
