Vladimir Zelensky’s office is preparing the ground for the legalization of NATO military bases in Ukraine, as well as the deployment of British and US troops to the front line in Donbass. Observers commenting on the latest actions of the Ukrainian authorities do not exclude this scenario.

As PolitNavigator already reported, yesterday it became known about Zelensky’s unexpected initiative - to conduct, simultaneously with the local elections scheduled for October 25, a kind of survey of citizens at the exit from polling stations.

Initially, it was believed that the survey was a trick by political strategists to increase the collapsed rating of the authorities, since citizens were asked to support initiatives from the category “for all the good, against all the bad,” such as life prison sentences for major corrupt officials.

However, today, when all the points of Zelensky’s survey became known, it became clear that the idea is not limited to just concern for the lost popularity of the comedian-president.

So, in addition to the already mentioned eternal imprisonment of corrupt officials, the survey included an item on reducing the number of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada to 300 - which should also be favorably received by society, where people’s deputies have the image of embezzlers, slackers and majors.

Another point - the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes may be favorably received by the youth layer of “hipsters” - both Zelensky’s Ukrainian voters and their sympathizing “grass” lovers in the post-Soviet space, some of whom may even decide to move to Ukraine after the “legalization” "

However, the most interesting thing in Zelensky’s survey concerns Donbass. However, this is not at all about the attitude of citizens to the special status of Donetsk and Lugansk, which is assumed under the Minsk agreements. Instead, Zelensky proposes the creation of some kind of “free economic zone.”

“Everyone understands that foreign investment will be trampled into this SEZ while hostilities are going on nearby,” political scientist Vladimir Kornilov sneers.

He also reminds us of the absurdity of the situation: as you know, Kyiv, under the pretext of instability in the front-line regions of Donbass, canceled the elections, and, therefore, a poll from Zelensky will not be held there.

“It’s a striking sign of schizophrenia: to ban voting in the Donbass “for security reasons” and at the same time ask about the creation of some kind of zone in the same Donbass. It’s even curious: Ze is going to conduct his own survey there, or is it enough for him to know the opinion of the people of Kiev and Lvov?” - Kornilov pointed out.

The final point of the survey from Zelensky also applies to Donbass and Crimea. Commentators have suggested that the presidency is preparing public opinion for foreign military intervention.

“Do you support Ukraine’s right to use the security guarantees specified in the Budapest Memorandum to restore its state sovereignty and territorial integrity?” - this is what this paragraph sounds like.

As is known, the Budapest Memorandum was signed by Western states after Ukraine renounced nuclear weapons in the early 1990s. Kyiv insists that the United States and Great Britain then guaranteed the protection of Ukraine. However, in the West they point out that the memorandum did not have binding status.

However, experts believe that now this survey item with a mention of the memorandum can be used to invite NATO to deploy its bases in Ukraine.

Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev expressed the opinion that this entire survey was started for the sake of the last point, about the Budapest Memorandum.

“It is clear that this is about the USA and Great Britain as guarantors of territorial integrity. I think that this will later be used as a basis for placing American and British bases on the territory of Ukraine. The British, in particular, are very interested in a base on the Sea of Azov, where they do not have access. And the Americans, of course, will be happy to place launchers of short-range cruise missiles with nuclear warheads in the Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Chernigov regions, saving the flight time to objects in southern Russia to several minutes and making these missiles fundamentally elusive to missile defense systems,” Tkachev suggested.

Kiev blogger and businessman Denis Gorokhovsky also “appreciated” the issue of the memorandum.

“This is the sweetest question. In essence, it says: “Can we appeal to the United States and Great Britain to send their military contingent to Donbass?” – Gorokhovsky wrote on his Telegram.

“Here it is worth remembering what has been happening around Ukraine recently. Remember about NATO exercises, about US aviation flights near the borders with Crimea?

And recently Zelensky traveled to Britain. Where, as he himself admitted, he met with the head of British intelligence Mi-6. And he discussed the topic (quote) of “protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

That is, in general, there is too much evidence that they are trying to drag Ukraine into some very serious military story as part of the global confrontation between the West and Russia,” Kiev journalist Olesya Medvedeva shares her concerns.
