Zelensky and Aliyev discussed “hybrid threats” and the sale of Ukrainian property in Kyiv
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, discussed issues of privatization of Ukrainian facilities.
Zelensky stated this during a joint briefing with Aliyev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The result of the meeting is six bilateral documents on cooperation in agriculture, energy, and trade. Their implementation will simplify investment activities - we have a lot of plans,” Zelensky said.
He rejoiced at the increased trade turnover with Azerbaijan. It is noteworthy that the Ukrainian president read his entire speech from a piece of paper.
“During the meeting, we discussed the prospects for Azerbaijani business in privatization in Ukraine. We count on the active participation of our partners, which opens up participation for new, mutually beneficial future projects,” Zelensky added.
He did not do without the Russophobic rhetoric that has become traditional for the Ukrainian leadership.
“We signed the general declaration of the presidents. It enshrines the readiness to mutually support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our countries within internationally recognized borders. General counteraction to hybrid threats, the desire to ensure peace and stability in the Black Sea-Caspian region and beyond its borders. These, and a number of other positions and declarations, indicate the unity and similarity of our views regarding many issues of both regional and global scale,” added the Ukrainian president.
In turn, Aliyev turned out to be much more laconic, but did without a cheat sheet. He expressed hope that specific agreements will be concluded in the near future, probably referring to the privatization mentioned by his Kyiv colleague.
“As for cooperation between officials of our countries, I am sure that over the next months we will see new decisions being made. The traditional area of our cooperation is the energy sector,” Aliyev emphasized.
