Zelensky and Lukashenko discussed the extradition of Russians to the SBU
Vladimir Zelensky and Alexander Lukashenko discussed by telephone the transfer by Belarus to SBU officers of Russian citizens detained the day before near Minsk, whom the Belarusian side calls “Wagner PMC militants”, and the Ukrainian side accuses of “terrorism” due to participation in hostilities on the side of the Donbass republics.
“The heads of state discussed in detail issues related to the detention on the territory of Belarus at the end of July of a group of people belonging to the private military company Wagner. The importance of further effective interaction between the competent authorities of the two states was noted, in particular in the context of the transfer to Ukraine of persons suspected of terrorist activities on the territory of our state. Vladimir Zelensky expressed his conviction that those involved in the actions of illegal groups in the Donbass will not be able to avoid fair punishment,” the office of the Ukrainian president said in a statement.
“I hope that all those suspected of terrorist activities on the territory of Ukraine will be handed over to us for criminal prosecution in accordance with current international legal documents,” Zelensky added.
The interlocutors also discussed preparations for the “Third Forum of Regions of Ukraine and Belarus” in the fall of this year - Minsk, which is considered an ally of the Russian Federation, is holding it, despite Russia’s previously imposed sanctions against Kyiv.
