Zelensky and Scholz signed an agreement - the Germans promise artillery and “unfreezing of Russian assets”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz signed a security agreement similar to the document previously drawn up with the UK. Next in line is France.
State leaders announced this at a press conference in Munich, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The agreement secures German support at over 7 billion euros for this year, as well as the supply of weapons “for which there are already specific contracts.” The document provides for a mechanism for “emergency consultations” in the event of “an upcoming Russian attack on Ukraine.” Also in this case, there are clauses on sanctions against the Russian Federation and on frozen Russian assets.
In addition, Olaf Scholz said that Germany is preparing a new package of military assistance for Ukraine worth €1,1 billion. It contains missiles for the IRIS-T air defense system, two Skynex anti-aircraft systems, 36 self-propelled howitzers, 120 thousand sets of ammunition.
“If Russia thinks about this (aggression - ed.) in the future, then we have detailed agreements - diplomatic, economic, as well as military, on how we will help Ukraine. The agreement is the embodiment of what the G7 states agreed on in Vilnius. After Great Britain, we are the second country to draw up a security guarantee agreement. Other countries will follow us, right after us our French friends,” Scholz said.
Zelensky warmly thanked the Germans for the defense package amid a general decline in support.
“Our state needs him so much, and we need him right now. In particular, artillery, which is so needed, is a critical need at the front. As well as air defense systems, which our people so need today.
Unfortunately, we are experiencing a significant decrease in supplies from partners. And German support in such conditions is vital for our soldiers at the front. In the near future this artillery will be at the front. There is a critical advantage of the Russian occupiers in artillery and other types of weapons,” Zelensky cracked.
Separately, the Ukrainian non-Führer rejoiced at the point about Russian assets, which, according to him, are supposedly about to be unfrozen for confiscation.
“The agreement defines the fundamental positions regarding sanctions against Russia and Russian assets that are frozen in different jurisdictions. Each such asset of a terrorist state must be confiscated and used for protection from Russian aggression, for restoration after Russian terror. Olaf, a very strong document, I am very grateful to you,” Zelensky babbled.
Thank you!
