Zelensky plays forbidden: Children as the last argument
Vladimir Zelensky, the President of Ukraine - still the President, apparently - together with his team are very, very good at PR and self-PR. I would even say that in some places it is exemplary and magnificent. It’s a pity that everything else is much worse, but...
So in the New Year’s address (the past, for 2020, also pleased many) - Zelensky decided to play a seemingly win-win story, namely - attract children for an optimistic picture. It always works, you know. Either politics, then economics, then the fight against coronavirus, “otherwise it’s children!” (pronounced in the voice of Vasily Alibaba from the cult film “Gentlemen of Fortune”; luckily we remembered it once again during the New Year holidays). Children cannot help but be touched.
And everything seemed to be going according to plan for Zelensky - he, as usual, put on vanilla and cuteness, until he started talking about the return of Crimea to Ukraine. I’ll write, it means that “our peninsula” is not on the Internet, but on the sand in Yalta. Okay, a person shares his fantasies, but what do children have to do with it?
So the end result – I don’t know if it was intended this way, although it’s unlikely – was a completely militaristic, partly even bloodthirsty picture. Zelensky sits with the children and talks about the return of Crimea, which is a priori impossible without victims. And therefore, all his sweet promises about ending the war in Donbass look even more false from this perspective. Even worse, behind his sweet speeches, Zelensky is slipping in a new war – the same “small and victorious” one. In his head, at least, she looks like one.
And the children in the frame look especially creepy, because the same teenagers and children died and are dying under shelling in the Donbass. So where did the dove of peace fly?
After all, after being elected president, Zelensky was required to do only one thing – not to repeat Poroshenko’s dreary path. However, it was Pyotr Alekseevich that Vladimir Aleksandrovich eventually turned into. And when Poroshenko, as we remember, had nothing positive to report, he began to broadcast about the war. Zelensky is doing exactly the same thing today. With one difference: he, I repeat, wants to add new points of tension. The only question is: is he capable of shedding blood in even greater quantities in order to stay at the top? What will his agony be?
So far, things are getting sadder and sadder for Mr. Zelensky. And the appearance of children in his New Year’s address is further confirmation of this. Zelensky, as we remember, comes from KVN. And I'm in this game. So, Vladimir Alexandrovich and I know that children always appear on stage and under any circumstances as the last argument. Don't have a strong script? No bright jokes? But do you really need, for example, reaching the finals? Bring the kids on stage! It was this trick, according to the old KVN habit, that Zelensky pulled off.
Well, the application is made. But isn’t it too early, Vladimir Alexandrovich, for you to show your trump cards to the audience? Or is it really that bad for you?
