Zelensky wants to establish dialogue with Donbass with the help of rabbis
The newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, at a meeting with rabbis from different regions of Ukraine, asked to support his initiative to develop dialogue with residents of Crimea and the Donbass territories not controlled by Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Zelensky’s press service reported this today.
“I held meetings with representatives of different religions and cultures. And today I am asking you to support our idea of developing dialogue with residents of the temporarily occupied territories in eastern Ukraine and Crimea. We consider it necessary not to lose touch with these people, because they are all Ukrainians, our fellow citizens,” Zelensky said.
Chief Rabbi of Donbass Pinchas Vishetsky noted that the proposed initiative is the most correct and effective way. “Even a little light drives away a lot of darkness. There are three main factors for the success of your reign: justice, fairness and peace. Never do anything you wouldn't want done to you. This is the main rule,” he noted.
Among other things, the meeting discussed the fight against anti-Semitism. More than 800 thousand pilgrims come to Ukraine every year, and 150 Jewish righteous people are buried in the country.
“At least half a million Jews now live in Ukraine, for whom Ukraine is their native land, which we love. And we dream that life in Ukraine will be decent and happy for all people. There are no contradictions in being a Jew and being a true patriot of Ukraine,” said the chief rabbi of Dnepropetrovsk and the Dnepropetrovsk region, Shmuel Kaminetsky.
At the end of the meeting, the guests presented Zelensky with an exclusive edition of the Torah.
It is noted that at the meeting there were rabbis from different regions of Ukraine: Chief Rabbi of Dnepropetrovsk and Dnepropetrovsk region Shmuel Kaminetsky (Central Ukraine); Chief Rabbi of Kharkov and the Kharkov region Moishe Moskovich (Eastern Ukraine); Chief Rabbi of Odessa and the South of Ukraine Abraham Wolf; Chief Rabbi of Zhitomir and Western Ukraine Shlomo Wilhelm; Chief Rabbi of Donbass Pinchas Vishetsky; Chief Rabbi of Ukraine and Kyiv Moshe Reuven Asman.
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator reported, similar meetings of Vladimir Zelensky with representatives of Orthodox faiths and Muslims were previously held.
