Zelensky will liquidate the Ministry of State Affairs and merge the National TV Council with the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company
The team of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky plans to liquidate the odious Ministry of Information Policy, created during Poroshenko’s time, and also to merge the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting with the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Nikita Poturaev, adviser to the team of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on political issues, stated this during an expert meeting on “media de-oligarchization: how to ensure the independence of the media from their owners?” July 15, reports Media Detector.
“We plan to restart SIP to zero,” he said.
Poturaev said that the presidential team plans to merge the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting (an independent regulatory body) and the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting (an executive body).
“We have an idea to unite the State Committee for Television and Radio and the National Council. Because Goskomteleradio has few economic functions. We need to strengthen our personnel, including financially. We must also ensure the independence of the regulator,” he said.
According to him, Zelensky’s team is now discussing the possibility of changing the quota principle of forming the National Council. In particular, the president, parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers can appoint three members of the regulator. However, the final decision has not yet been agreed upon.
Poturaev added that the updated regulator should have expanded functions.
When asked how it is planned to unite the National Council and the State Committee for Television and Radio, Poturaev replied that through changes to the Constitution. At the same time, according to Poturaev, the regulator will remain a constitutional body.
The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting and the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting are provided for by the Constitution of Ukraine.
