Zelensky began issuing Ukrainian passports to foreign fighters
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky granted Ukrainian citizenship to 14 foreign fighters and mercenaries who fought in nationalist battalions against the inhabitants of the rebel Donbass.
Decree on granting citizenship published on the website of the President of Ukraine, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“These are only the first decisions to grant citizenship of our state to persons who defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The following will be accepted after receipt of materials from the Migration Service and their consideration in the prescribed manner,” Zelensky’s press service reports.
It is also noted that from now on “there will be no artificial inhibition or delay of this process, as was the case in past years.”
According to the decree, Ukrainian citizenship will be received by:
Dmitry Belogortsev (call sign “Lesnik”, Belarusian, national battalion “Donbass”, fled from the Ilovaisk cauldron), David Gachechiladze, Abdula Jalila (Georgian, national battalion “Donbass”), Tachi Jafarov, Rudolf Egorenko (Russian, national battalion “Donbass”), Tengiz Zanadze, Giorgi Kakhniashvili, Valery Kolot (call sign "Yosi", Belarusian, National Battalion "Donbass", Merab Kontselidze, Mamuka Muzashvili, Yuri Savilov (Kazakhstan, National Battalion "Donbass"), Levane Khutsishvili, Arslanbek Karimov and Yuli Tolopa (call sign "Valkyrie" , a Russian woman who joined the national battalion “Aidar”, known for attacking Oleg Lyashko with tomato juice in 2016 as a sign of protest precisely because of the refusal to assist in obtaining Ukrainian citizenship).
