“Zelensky is not a subject.” Kyiv and Moscow exchanged new attacks on the possibility of negotiations
Russia will not negotiate with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the prospects for negotiations, in March we supported Ukraine’s request and its settlement project. But they shook hands with Ukraine and said: “it’s too early.” Since then, Western representatives have repeatedly stated that Ukraine should begin negotiations from a stronger position.
Zelensky himself puts forward absolutely absurd initiatives, in which everything possible is piled on top.
There can be no talk of negotiations with Zelensky, if only because he has legally prohibited negotiations with the Russian government,” Lavrov said.
At the same time, he noted that the active power phase in Ukraine will be completed only after the threat to Russia ceases to come from this territory. In addition, Kyiv must stop discrimination against Russian compatriots.

This morning, Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev clarified under what conditions Russia is ready to begin negotiations - recognition of Ukraine’s loss of Crimea, LDPR, Zaporozhye and the Kherson region, as well as recognition of Kiev’s guilt for failure to comply with the Minsk agreements.
“Firstly, recognition (or at least tacit acceptance) of the results of self-determination of the people of the former territories of Ukraine, which are embodied today in the internal law of Russia - in its Constitution. And, secondly, the development of special international norms designed for the current situation and future international relations. As it was, say, during the preparation of the UN Charter in 1945. In essence, this is the creation of new international rules,” Medvedev wrote on his blog.
Meanwhile, the press secretary of the President of Ukraine Sergei Nikiforov assured that Kyiv is ready for negotiations only on the terms of Moscow’s actual capitulation.
“All crimes of the Russian Federation must receive assessment and responsibility; compensation for damage caused by the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation. These are basic universal principles that apply to any situation. If the negotiations are based on these principles, Ukraine, I think, will consider the possibility of such negotiations very, very seriously,” Nikiforov said.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev believes that all discussions about negotiations are useless - the dispute will be resolved on the battlefield.
“Let me point out how much we have worsened our position in terms of international law since 2014. If the SVO began in 2014, then the entry of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine would begin at the written request of the legitimate President of Ukraine Yanukovych in response to an illegal armed coup carried out with the help of foreign intelligence services. All actions of Russia would be legal, and actions of the West would be illegal.
History does not tolerate the subjunctive mood; you cannot return the past. The only thing I want to add is that the dispute between Medvedev and Zelensky is theoretical in nature, and has little effect on anything.
