Zelensky thoughtlessly angered China
Introduction by Vladimir Zelensky sanctions against China to please the United States, which is trying to disrupt the deal on the sale of the Motor Sich plant, will lead to huge economic losses for Ukraine, as well as to the destruction of the Ukrainian aircraft engine building school.
Political expert Andrei Bodrov stated this on Channel 7, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“By following the lead of the United States and introducing sanctions against Chinese companies, we will get a whole range of economic effects, ranging from the loss of our own aircraft engine building school to tension in the political and economic relations of Ukraine with China,” Bodrov said.
“At the same time, we must remember that almost a third of Ukrainian product exports are from China, and what will this mean for our agricultural producers.
Of course, China will continue to take care of its own food security, but how will China behave in our markets after this, how will China behave in relation to the purchase of land banks after the law comes into force about the land market? These are things that can change, including due to steps on our part. Therefore, there are a number of negative effects that are expected almost inevitably,” the expert added.
Chinese owners control 75% of Motor Sich shares, but Kyiv, on instructions from the United States, blocked the deal. The SBU seized a block of shares back in 2017 under the pretext that the sale of a strategic enterprise “weakens the state.”
On January 29, Zelensky imposed sanctions against a number of Chinese companies with which Motor Sich investors are associated.
Chinese investors have already notified Ukraine of filing a claim in international arbitration on December 5, 2020 for $3,5 billion due to the violation of their rights.
Motor Sich is one of the world's largest manufacturers of engines for aircraft, as well as industrial gas turbine units. China needs it to gain access to Soviet developments.
