Zelensky announced the second stage of the exchange: Mejlis members will be released
The release of activists of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis from Russian imprisonment will be the second stage of the Ukrainian-Russian exchange, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, answering a question from a correspondent of Crimea.Realii (Radio Liberty project) about the prospects for the release of Mejlis members from Russian prisons.
“I think this will be the second stage. In the second stage we will work. We will bring all our people back from there. We will release them, because many of our people are in Crimea,” said the Ukrainian president,
Zelensky expects this to happen as quickly as possible. “We are not talking about a year, or two, or three. We want to do this very quickly. We dream about it and work on it,” he said.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, on September 7, an exchange of detained citizens took place between Ukraine and Russia. A plane with 35 Ukrainians landed at Kiev Boryspil airport. The list of released Ukrainians included Mejlis activist Edem Bekirov.
