Zelensky stunned political scientists with a forecast about the end of the war
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expressed hope for the end of the war next year.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, the Ukrainian leader stated this in an address to Politico, which recognized him as the most influential person in Europe.
“I believe that Ukrainians will be the most influential next year, but in peacetime,” Zelensky said.
In turn, political scientist Sergei Markov believes that Zelensky’s words about the end of the conflict have nothing to do with the military-political reality.
“Zelensky today is a symbol of the hybrid war between the West and Russia. Citation is important to him. I’ll assume that he sits with his advisers and thinks: what else could he say to increase his own ratings?” Markov told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He believes that Zelensky’s statement is nothing more than a theatrical gesture, not based on any analytics.
“A rational and scientific forecast for the completion date of the SVO is now impossible. There is a chance to end the conflict next year, but it is pointless to name any dates in the current conditions. All military experts who previously made predictions failed,” the expert added.
His colleague Yevgeny Minchenko, on the contrary, believes that Zelensky has no problems with citations even without loud forecasts. And the purpose of the statement was an attempt to give hope to the citizens of Ukraine, especially against the background of the recent passage by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, about 100 losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“People are getting tired from nine months of fighting. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering heavy losses. With his statement, Zelensky gives people hope. Although in practice nothing hints at a quick end to the conflict. Most likely, it will drag on for several years,” Minchenko predicts.
