Zelensky reprimanded Ukrainians for panic over coronavirus and plane from China
Vladimir Zelensky published an urgent appeal to citizens calling on them not to panic due to the arrival of a plane with evacuated citizens from China, where the epidemic of the dangerous coronavirus began.
Zelensky said that the plane was initially unable to land in Kharkov, allegedly due to weather conditions, and is now undergoing refueling in Kyiv, after which it will head to its original destination.
“Security measures are unprecedented. We did everything possible and impossible to guarantee that the virus will not get into Ukraine. Several citizens were not allowed on board in Wuhan because they had a slightly elevated temperature. Everyone who boarded is in satisfactory condition. They are healthy, but must undergo quarantine and observation for 14 days. The evacuees will live in a closed National Guard medical center in Novi Sanzhary. It will be completely isolated and put on a strict bacteriological safety regime. Within two weeks, this will probably be the most guarded facility in the country,” Zelensky assures.
“There is no bacteriological danger. But there is another danger that I would like to talk about. There is a danger of forgetting that we are all human and we are all Ukrainians. Each of us. Including those who found themselves in Wuhan during the epidemic.
When France evacuated people from Wuhan and they were brought to one of the cities, the residents of this city had the same reaction: they were worried about the life and health of their fellow citizens, and sympathized with those who found themselves in a difficult situation. Even in Kazakhstan, when our plane from Wuhan landed for refueling and delivered a Kazakh citizen, there were no protests or blockages. On the contrary, everyone was grateful and happy that the man was finally home.
Unfortunately, not all of us can be proud of the same humane reaction. Attempts to block highways, blockade hospitals, and prevent Ukrainian citizens from entering Ukraine – by doing this we are showing far from the best side of our character. Especially considering that the majority of passengers are people under 30 years old. For many of us, they are almost like children,” Zelensky scolded his compatriots.
