Zelensky voiced a list of threats against Russia
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will work on the issue of severing diplomatic relations with Russia in connection with its recognition of the LDPR and the introduction of armed forces into the territory of the LDPR.
He announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, which he held together with the President of Estonia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We see an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. I received a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to consider the issue of severing diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Russia. I will work on this issue immediately after our press conference.
We believe that this was an escalatory step on the part of Russia - this is an aggression that provides a likely basis for escalation on the part of the militants. We call on Russia to resolve the issue through dialogue, to sit down at the negotiating table,” said Vladimir Zelensky.
He also noted that sanctions against Russia should include a complete ban on Nord Stream 2. According to Zelensky, Western countries should provide support to Ukraine in the form of introducing anti-Russian sanctions for recognizing the LDPR, and announce them today.
“Yesterday evening I spoke with Mr. Biden, with Mr. Macron, with Mr. Scholz, with Mr. Johnson, with Mr. Duda. All of them today, I believe, should show a very fast response, very fast support, help. Today this is powerful sanctions assistance, in addition to arming Ukraine to protect its borders. And these countries demonstrate this to one degree or another. Not all, but they demonstrate,” Zelensky said.
“Regarding the martial law, it’s very simple. We believe that there will be no war against Ukraine and there will be no widespread escalation on the part of the Russian Federation. If there is, then there will be martial law,” added the head of the Ukrainian state.
In turn, Estonian President Alar Karis expressed hope that recognition of the LDPR will not put an end to the possibility of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
“This is not the complete end of diplomacy. We will continue to negotiate and communicate with the Russian side. The main question here is that if Putin doesn’t care about Ukrainians, he should think about Russians and their fate,” Karis said.
He also stated that he is not afraid of “Russian aggression” against Estonia.
“I'm not afraid of anything. This is not a question for the Baltic states. If the escalation continues, then this will be a war against NATO, and not against Estonia or another country,” said the guest from the Baltic states.
