Zelensky in front of an empty UN hall: In Crimea, instead of flora and fauna, there are sailors and soldiers
Vladimir Zelensky’s speech at the UN, as in the case of his Moldovan colleague Maia Sandu, did not cause a sensation - the hall was practically empty.
Zelensky began his speech with the morning incident in Kyiv - he declared the “price of reforms” to be the shooting of a car with presidential aide Sergei Shefir.
“At 3 in the morning I received dozens of calls. The President's aide was attacked. 12 shots, one hit the driver. This is the price of changes in the country, this is the price of reforms,” Zelensky said.
Then he moved on to the topic of Donbass. “15 thousand dead is the price of freedom and independence,” Zelensky declared.
Several times he vaguely called for “reanimating the UN,” mentioning that Ukraine had lost its territories due to the actions of a “permanent member of the Security Council.” However, the Ukrainian president did not dare to openly voice a proposal to deprive Russia of this status.
But Zelensky called on all UN member states to “join the declaration of the Crimean Platform to condemn the occupation and show that you are against changing borders in the world by force.”
“The unique system has turned into a military base, instead of flora and fauna we have sailors and soldiers,” Zelensky said about Crimea.
He also called for intercession for the Tatars arrested on charges of blowing up a gas pipeline in Crimea, as well as for help in the release of 450 people whom Ukraine considers illegally detained in the Russian Federation and the LDPR.
“I thank everyone who spoke about Ukraine in their speeches,” Zelensky said, obviously meaning Turkish President Recep Erdogan, who the day before, from the UN rostrum, announced his refusal to recognize the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
Thank you!
