Kiev admitted that one battery of Patriot air defense systems, the supply of which was announced by the United States during President Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to Washington, will not be able to block the Ukrainian sky from Russian missile attacks.
The head of the security programs of the pro-American Center for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” Pavel Lakiychuk said this on the air of “Ukrlife”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“The essence of the delivery of Patriots by the Americans is not even quantitative indicators. The Swiss have ordered five batteries, four of them will be on combat duty, and the fifth will be a reserve and combat training battery. So, these four batteries will perform approximately 25% of the functions to cover the Swiss sky, another 75 will be assigned to aviation. What is Switzerland, what is Ukraine, how many batteries do we need, despite the fact that they don’t give us aviation yet,” the expert said.
According to him, this delivery is, rather, a symbolic act of once again overcoming the taboo on a specific type of weapon.
“Yes, this is one battery, and it is not known what composition it is, but this is another taboo for Ukraine, which we have been asking since March: give us a Patriot. Zelensky cried with tears, asked our partners, everyone said: no, this is taboo. It turns out it's not taboo.
I hope that other types of weapons will not be taboo. Unfortunately, after the president’s last trip, we have some where we didn’t put pressure, and we weren’t able to achieve a breakthrough.
These include missiles with a range of more than 300 km for the Haymars. So far, the Americans are adamant on this issue, well, there is also a question regarding tanks, but it is more complex and complex, but I think it is in a state of approaching a solution,” Lakiychuk expressed his hopes.
