Zelensky honored the memory of the punitive forces - compare with ignoring Odessa
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who pointedly ignored the fifth anniversary of the tragic events in Odessa on May 2 - the mass burning of Euromaidan opponents in the House of Trade Unions - today took part in events in memory of the fallen participants in the punitive operation against the Russian uprising in Donbass.
“President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky took part in a ceremony honoring the memory of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who died during the Anti-Terrorism Operation and the Joint Forces Operation in the East of Ukraine.
The ceremony took place near the Hall of Memory at the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It was attended by relatives and friends of the victims, military personnel, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Chief of the General Staff.
During the event, the names of 49 soldiers who died in the plane crash of an Il-14 plane shot down near Lugansk on June 2014, 76 were read out. They also honored five soldiers who died on this day in different years of the war, giving their lives defending the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine,” Zelensky’s press service reports.
An Il-76MD crashed while carrying out a mission to rotate Ukrainian military personnel, as well as to deliver ammunition and armored vehicles to a group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at Lugansk airport.
According to the LPR authorities, the plane was shot down during landing due to a violation of the republic's airspace.
There were 49 people on board, all of them died.
